The updated models will be launched in three-engine options; an entry-level C 200 model, powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine; a C 220d model, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine and a C 43 AMG model, powered by a twin-turbocharged petrol V6. There is no news regarding an updated C 63 AMG model, but we can expect to see one very soon.
The C 200 gains new hybrid technology from its bigger siblings. The EQ Boost function boosts the 135kW output up to 145kW, eliminating turbo lag at lower revs. The function also switches the engine off during coasting and converts kinetic energy into charge for its battery. The C 220d and C 43 AMG models both gain an extra 17kW of power compared to their predecessors.
The Sport Line styling kit will also be dropped from the Mercedes C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet range given the popularity of the AMG Line kit. The standard kit has been improved and now includes LED lights as a standard feature. There are also two-new exterior colours available – Mojave Silver and Graphite Grey.
The interior improvements include a new standard 7-inch central infotainment screen, which can be upgraded to a larger 10,25-inch touch display, as well as a new 12,3-inch screen that replaces the traditional analogue instrument dials. The steering wheel also gets touch sensitive buttons that respond to swipes and gestures to control functions such as media and the trip computer.
There are also improved camera and radar systems that improve the overall safety of the Mercedes C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet. The hardware allows the car to ‘see’ up to 500 meters in front of it, 40 meters on each side and 80 meters behind it. The new Active Distance Control DISTRONIC system makes use of satellite-map data to adjust the car’s speed, reacting to expected traffic situations and routes.
